Photography for press and PR generally demands something a little out of the ordinary. A PR photograph must grab an editor's attention by the newsworthiness of the subject itself, by it's visual impact, but ideally through a combination of these two elements.
Newspaper and magazine editors are inundated with press releases and photographs every day, so yours must have enough impact to stand out from the crowd.
So, whether it's a product launch, a new appointment or any other kind of story, a PR photograph should be anything but run-of-the-mill.
For example, to create impact in a PR photograph, your photographer might look for large quantities of whatever the product happens to be, an unusual location for a PR portrait, a shot taken from an unusual angle, or a combination of any of these. If you can supply them with a press release before the event, so much the better. For more tips, go to The Importance of Briefing Your Photographer.
